Gainesville High School Softball 2008 Junior Varsity Stats:
Varsity Stats
Password Protected Junior Varsity Overall Statistics Want to know what all the stats are? Well, we are lucky that Bonnie Senappe, the Director of Statistics for NCAA Softball Divisions I and II, was gracious in taking her time to send us resources and explain each one of the categories. Here's a glossary of each of the category abbreviations. These are NCAA statistical categories, and we will be using the NCAA manual to calculate them. Here are the NCAA Rules resources:
http://www.ncaa.org/library/rules/2008/2008_softball_rules.pdf
http://www.ncaa.org/library/statistical/baseball_softball_scorebook.pdf http://www.ncaa.org/champadmin/softball/base_soft_boxscore.pdf The categories with an asterix (*) are calculated, and their formulas are explained below the glossary. The ones with a dagger (†) are statistical categories that may need some explanation.
*Here are the formulas for the statistical categories that require calculation. They are in order from top to bottom on the tables: AVG = Base Hits ÷ Official At-Bats AB = Plate Appearances - (Base of Balls + Sacrifices + Hit By Pitcher) H = Singles + Doubles + Triples + Home Runs TB = (1 X Singles) + (2 X Doubles) + (3 X Triples) + (4 X Home Runs) SLG% = Total Bases ÷ Official At-Bats OB% = (Hits + Walks + Hit By Pitcher + On Base By Interference + On Base By Dropped 3rd Strike + On Base By Fielder's Choice) ÷ (Official At-Bats + Hits + Walks + Hit By Pitcher + On Base By Interference + On Base By Dropped 3rd Strike + On Base By Fielder's Choice + Sacrifices) ERA = (Earned Runs X 7) ÷ Innings Pitched AB (Pitching Stats) = Plate Appearances - (Base of Balls + Sacrifices + Hit By Pitcher+On Base By Interference) B/Avg = Base Hits ÷ Official At-Bats C = Put Outs + Assists + Errors FLD% = (Put Outs + Assists) ÷ (Put Outs + Assists + Errors) SBA% = Stolen Bases Allowed ÷ (Stolen Bases Allowed + Caught Runner Stealing Base) †Here are some clarifications. They are in order from top to bottom on the tables: Double, Triples and Home Runs are in the table for information purposes only. They are not part of the number used in calculations, as all hits, including multiple base hits, are tallied in the Hits (H) category. On Base By Dropped 3rd Strike, where a batter reaches 1st Base safely because of a dropped 3rd Strike. Counted as an at-bat with no hit. On Base By Interference, where a batter reaches 1st Base safely because of interference. Not counted as an at-bat. On Base By Fielder's Choice, where a batter reaches 1st Base safely because of a fielder's choice. Counted as an at-bat with no hit. On Base By Error, where a batter reaches 1st Base safely because of an error. Counted as an at-bat with no hit. Plate Appearances are the total number of times a batter comes to the plate, regardless of the outcome. Sacrifice Hits are any hit on the ground that advance a runner where the batter is put out, as long as it is not the final out of the inning. Sacrifice bunts are the most common Sacrifice Hit. Shutouts/Combined Shutouts: SHO is a solo shutout, and CBO is combined shutouts. So, if a pitcher pitches the entire game and it ends in a shoutout, she gets credit for a solo shutout. If she pitches five innings and someone else pitches the rest of the game, and it ends in a shutout, they each get credit for a combined shutout. |
