 Quick Click Week-At-A-Glance Softball Events Synopsis Lady 'Canes Softball Information Best Lady 'Canes Season Ever At An End (22-Apr-08) The Region 1-5A tournament quarterfinal loss to Fleming Island marked the end to the most successful season in Hurricane Fastpitch history. Although it was not the ending everyone wanted, the accomplishments along the way are unparalleled: first District title, first championship of any kind, first 20-win season, not to mention a foundation for the future built on a senior legacy for a freshman class that flat-out delivered this season. Good job, Lady 'Canes! Get ready for next year!
Lady 'Canes District 4-5A Champions (19-Apr-08) With a stunning 7-1 score-line, the Lady 'Canes claimed their first fastpitch softball title by defeating perennial district rivals Forest High School in the District 4-5A championship game. As visitors, the Lady 'Canes batted first and drew first blood by posting two runs before the Lady 'Cats could recover defensively. The Forest Lady 'Cats responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning to keep the score close. After that, both teams traded zeros in the 2nd and 3rd innings. In the top of the fourth inning the Lady 'Canes broke it open with a double, a few singles, and a couple of helpful errors by the Lady 'Cats, and posted 4 crucial runs. This left the Lady 'Cats in deep 6-1 hole, and they never figured out how to claw their way out. Unable to respond in the bottom of the 4th, the score-line remained 6-1 as both teams again traded zeros in the 5th and 6th innings. The Lady 'Canes capped of their brilliant night with an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to bring the score to 7-1. With cunning defense and exceptional pitching, the Lady 'Canes closed the door on Lady 'Cats in the bottom of the seventh, and turned the 7-1 lead into a stunning final score. With this victory the talented senior class of Chris Donovan, Marianne McKey, Kat Vloedman, Tine Vloedman and Lindsay Whitlock leave a lasting legacy for all future Hurricane ballers: The first fastpitch District Championship and first fastpitch title of any kind, as well as the first 20-win season, in School history. Outstanding!
