Gainesville High School Requirements:

Current statewide standards:
Students in all of Florida's public high schools must meet statewide standards in order to graduate with a standard diploma. At a minimum, students must complete 24 academic credits in grades 9-12, pass both sections of the High School Competency Test, and maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) for courses taken during or after 1997-1998. These minimum state standards also require that the 24 course credits be distributed as follows:
- Four credits in English, with major concentration in composition and literature
- Three credits in mathematics; at least one of which must be in Algebra I, its equivalent, or a higher level course
- Three credits in science, two of which must have a laboratory component
- One credit in American History
- One credit in world history, including a comparative study of all major political systems
- One half credit in economics. One half credit in American government, including study of the U.S. Constitution and the structure of the state and local government
- One credit in practical arts career education or exploratory career education, or one credit in performing arts, or one half credit in practical arts/exploratory career education and one half credit in performing arts
- One half credit in life management skills. One half credit in physical education
- Nine elective credits
