Gainesville High School NJROTC:

GHS NJROTC is fun! Not only is it fun, it's challenging. We had a successful start of the school year with our New Cadet Training. We then took several weeks to train for the Gator Homecoming Parade.  With 68 Cadets marching this year, we made an impressive sight to the roughly 130,000 spectators along the parade route.  We took a trip to the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, and got to earn a Sea Cruise ribbon.  We went on a Field Meet trip to Brooksville for Central High's Iron Bear Challenge, and won a trophie in Truck Pull.  We are preparing for a three day trip to Parris Island, the Marine Corps Basic Training base in South Carolina.  We have performed SEVERAL color guards.  We have learned a lot and have achieved a lot already this school year.

The NJROTC naval science curriculum integrates six themes: naval history, navigation, seamanship, national defense, careers, and leadership. Each theme is interwoven throughout the four years of the program. Each year's course content is designed to build the student's leadership skills and their technical and historical knowledge. Successful completion of two or more of the courses qualifies the student to enlist in the armed forces at an advanced pay grade.
